Organization Overview: Music in Urban Schools Inspiring Change (MUSIC Inc.) is an El Sistema inspired program that has been offering tuition-free music instruction to Chicago west side communities since 2011. MUSIC Inc.’s commitment to equity and accessibility in music education is rooted in the principles of our family focused approach. Our program culture is built around trauma-informed instruction and supporting students' social emotional growth as part of their music education. Music teachers serve as mentors, helping students set goals, create a strong at home practice routine, curating your instruction to best support each individual student’s needs.
Job Summary: MUSIC Inc. is seeking experienced teaching artists for flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and cello. Teaching artists are responsible for teaching small group classes for beginners, semi-private lessons from more advanced students, and assisting in youth orchestra rehearsal. Programming is located at St. Agatha Community Center on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. We are seeking candidates who is passionate about working with youth and inspiring to build strong and empathic communities.
Contract Length: 2023-2024 School Year (Sept. 11th – May 24th)
Times: Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday from 4:00pm – 6:30pm; Saturdays 10am – 2pm
Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in both private and group settings (required)
Bachelor of Music Degree or enrolled in a Bachelor of Music or Music Education degree at an accredited university.
Must meet background clearance requirements, including fingerprinting
Pay:
All teaching artists are hired as independent contractors and paid per service. Per service rates vary from $30 - $35/hour; according to experience and qualifications.
