Background:

The Beverly Arts Center is a vibrant and multifaceted not-for-profit organization serving the Chicago metro area with high-quality programs in dance, visual arts, music, film and theater. The 40,000 square foot space houses a 400-seat theatre, art gallery, exhibition spaces, music and dance studios, art classrooms and event rental spaces including a courtyard and light-filled atrium. Founded in 1967 and located in Chicago’s historic Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood, the BAC is also home to an extensive community outreach program.

Our Education Department works with specialized Teaching Artists to develop pedagogical practices rooted in compassion, professionalism, and developmental awareness . Job Description:

The Beverly art Center School Partnerships division is seeking Teaching Artists to work in multiple schools across the city of Chicago. We are looking to hire Teaching artists who specialize in dance, visual arts, music, film, and/or theatre.

Responsibilities:

perform high-quality arts based instruction to students in grades K-12Build good working relationships with students and staff at the partnering schools Create well-constructed lesson plans that are aligned with the Illinois Arts Learning StandardsOffer assessment of student progression throughout the yearGood communication with Beverly Art Center Staff, and Staff at Partnership school(s) Ability to take advise/assessment well and incorporate feedback into future lesson plans Ability to make lesson plans feel relevant for the students. Assist with end of the year Showcase (spring semester)

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution OR 4 years of professional experience working in your arts discipline Teaching experience within your arts discipline (preferred) Excellent oral/written communication skills Extensive knowledge of your arts discipline Experience working with people from various cultural and economic backgrounds.

Compensation (hourly) :

This is a contract-based, part time position. Base rate is $45 but negotiable dependent on experience and partnership with the school.
