Studio Assistant (Archive Database Work) at Pope.L Studio
Pope.L, internationally recognized artist based in Chicago, IL is seeking a Studio Assistant to work primarily on archive database related work, as well as lesser tasks. The Studio Assistant role is a part-time position; hourly pay based on experience.This position requires 12 – 30 hours per week. Studio hours are 9:00am - 5:30pm, including a half hour lunch. The Studio Assistant will work closely with Pope.L and studio staff in a collaborative spirit on a daily basis.Primary Duties: Highly recommended - experience working in Artsystems, ArtBase or any other archive-based software, for example libraries, collections, etc. Artsystems is the studio’s comprehensive archive software for storing data related to artworks, exhibition history, press references, and studio inventory. However, we are open to applicants who have a different archive software experience.Strong writing, communication, collaboration, and archivist skillsHighly recommended - Familiar with the artist’s work and how it encompasses a variety of mediums: performance, painting, drawing, theater, video, sculpture, and installationFulfill information and image-requests for galleries, museums, publications, etc.Request, process, and organize media files (ex. high-res images, raw + edited video, etc.) from exhibitions and various projectsOther Duties: Assist in day-to-day communication with galleries, art institutions, and collaborators regarding project timelines and archive related inquiriesLearn proper use and maintenance of studio intellectual property documents Collaborate with studio staff and Pope.L to realize projects based on agreed upon timelinesSpecial Emphasis:In addition to the duties mentioned above, this role involves working within physical media archives. We are seeking someone who is able to work within analog physical systems, for example, 35mm slides, VHS, DVD, etc.Experience we are looking for:Able to work with MAC computersArchive Database experience (ArtSystems, ArtBase, or other archive based software)Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, must have experience working with large data setsMicrosoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Prior experience/working with an artist or in an archive-related roleAdobe Suite experience (Photoshop is highly recommended)Qualifications:Willing to stay in this position for a minimum of two yearsHighly organized, detail oriented, efficient, thorough, and communicativeMust be able to communicate clearly in writing and speech Adaptable and able to work in a group setting while focusing on individual tasksMulti-Tasking: Must be able to work on several different projects at once Must be able to work in a busy environment and take constructive criticismAnalytical problem-solving skills are a mustMust have a vehicle and valid driver’s licensePart of your training will involve researching/familiarizing yourself with the Artist's oeuvre in your free time so that during studio-meetings, etc you are comfortable and conversant.
