Spring Internship

PATRON is a contemporary art gallery in Chicago founded on the defining characteristics of a patron of the arts, that is, a person chosen, named or honored as a special guardian, protector or supporter.

With this foundation set as a cornerstone, the gallery hopes to open new and traditional avenues of helping audiences of patrons from all walks of life engage and find access to contemporary art.

Our Gallery Assistant Internship is open to undergraduate, graduate students and recent graduates, as well as anyone seriously interested in learning about marketing and directing of a contemporary art gallery.

The internship would be a 2-days per week (Tuesday-Saturday) with a semester-long commitment; allowing for the opportunity to participate in a number of exhibitions during their time with the gallery. The internship is unpaid.

Interested applicants should have the following qualifications:

• Interest in contemporary art

• Prior experience in a supporting role at a commercial gallery, museum or comparable arts

organization or institution

• Detail-oriented and organized

• Professional interpersonal skills and phone manner

• Self-starter, dedicated, enthusiastic problem solver.

• Proficiency with Macs, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) / Mac Default Applications (Pages, Numbers)

• Familiarity with Photoshop, Indesign

• Availability for some evening events

Responsibilities Include:

• Maintaining the gallery and backroom - including managing office supplies and the occasional light cleaning

• Attending and working at exhibition openings and receptions

• Answering telephones and greeting visitors

• Working with artist and gallery staff on exhibition installations

• Updating and completing artist and artwork archives using collection database (Gallery Manager)

• Developing research for gallery directors and owners
