Social Media and Communications Strategist

OVERVIEW:

The newly created Social Media and Communications Strategist position will oversee 2nd Story’s social media, communications, and audience development. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who will support 2nd Story’s goal of cultivating and developing its national audience while caring for its internal and external communities.

We are seeking someone who:

  • is drawn to stories (both for pleasure and as a tool for engagement);
  • engages in their work through the lenses of Anti-Racism and Decolonization;
  • considers themself an aficionado of digital and online platforms; and
  • loves managing projects and can adhere to their own self-guided timelines.

COMPENSATION:

Full-time W2 salary contract at $37.5K/year, plus 80% Employer-covered Health, Dental, and Vision, a 100% Employer-covered life insurance plan, and a Flexible Time Off policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Manage 2nd Story’s Digital Presence

  • Overseeing 2nd Story’s social media platforms. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • managing and generating content for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn
    • updating and maintaining the 2nd Story and CultureBuilds websites (we use Squarespace)
    • brainstorming additional opportunities for 2nd Story to grow its online presence and bringing them to the team for consideration
    • researching and creating content for 2nd Story’s weekly eblast and the CultureBuilds’ monthly eblast
    • improving the presence of the 2nd Story and CultureBuilds websites by introducing search engine optimization (SEO) to the platform

Audience Development

  • Working closely with the Managing Director, develop a strategic marketing plan that deepens 2nd Story’s relationship with current audiences, expands 2nd Story’s reach, and generates earned revenue through ticket sales and CultureBuilds partnerships
  • Further develops 2nd Story’s CRM platform (we currently use Salesforce) to gain a deeper understanding of audience engagement and trends
  • Oversee Various Communication Channels
    • Maintaining open communication with internal and external stakeholders. This includes, but is not limited to:
      • sending out a bi-monthly internal newsletter to 2nd Story’s Collective of Staff, Board, and Company members
      • managing the 2nd Story mobile phone as a virtual box office on performance nights
    • Managing correspondence with 2nd Story’s publicist, as needed

Coordination of Marketing Assets

  • Working closely with the Manager of Operations, assemble marketing assets for 2nd Story’s internal and external programming (a typical season consists of ~75 public and private events). This includes, but is not limited to:
    • developing copy for 2nd Story’s performance, education, and CultureBuilds programming as needed
    • updating and managing 2nd Story’s event inventory via Salesforce
    • collaborating with the Managing Director to create different graphic elements (slides for virtual shows, show programs, social media content, etc.)
  • Tracking 2nd Story’s annual advertising and marketing budgets

Ambassadorship and Collaboration

  • Representing the organization in the public sphere
  • Timely and professional maintenance of correspondence
  • Sitting forward and actively engaging as a member of the 2nd Story team.
    • This means leaning into the job, thinking ahead, and thinking robustly.
    • It also means that occasionally we do things that are not explicitly “our job” to support another staff member in a critical time.
    • We embrace a culture of Yes. (and balance this with the fact that we are humans and rest and boundaries are essential to our wellbeing ☺)
  • Preparation for and facilitation of weekly marketing meetings.
  • As a member of the 2nd Story staff, the Social Media and Communications Strategists is expected to attend:
    • Friday Office hours
    • Staff meetings
    • Collective Meetings (2-3 per year)
    • Board meetings (as required)
    • Special events for the organization
  • Tracking work and progress to goal via shared project management system (2nd Story currently uses Asana)
  • Participate in ongoing reflection, which includes a standing meeting with a supervisor and annual reflections with the Artistic and Managing Directors
