A Long Walk Home (ALWH) is an art organization that empowers young people to end violence against girls and women. Two decades later, ALWH is now our country’s foremost organization that empowers Black girls and young women to use their voices and artistic visions to organize themselves and their communities to be free of gender-based and racial violence. To manifest this vision, we have developed a powerful collective of artists, activists, healers, and scholars we train, collaborate with, and work together to advocate for change.

A Long Walk Home, Inc. (ALWH) seeks a full-time Senior Administrator to oversee all administrative management duties for the organization. The Senior Administrator works closely with the Executive Director to communicate internally and externally and perform administrative tasks efficiently and effectively, supporting A Long Walk Home’s mission. Their workload is split between 70% administrative, 30% project management support.

The Senior Administrator must be creative and enjoy working within an environment that is mission-driven, results-driven, fast-paced, and community-oriented. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in various situations and possess strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills. The ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities is imperative. This person must work within deadlines, manage a wide variety of activities, and maintain confidential matters. In addition, the individual must have robust self-care and coping practices while working at the organization. Due to the small staff at the organization and working with children, the candidate must make a minimum commitment of two years to this position.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee all administrative management duties for the organizationWorks with the Executive Director at the organization on projects and daily operations Coordinate all logistics and production of special events (exhibitions, youth-led marches/protests, public programs, lectures, screenings, and webinars)Provide logistical support and experience project management for live, hybrid, and virtual events conception to completion.Facilitate internal and external (outreach) communications between the Staff, Board, Youth leaders, community partners, and Executive DirectorServe as liaison between staff and company partners regarding event or programming detailsOrganize communication systems such as electronic calendars, coordinate meetings, video conferences, and correspondence for staff and community partners Schedule meetings and events, board meetings, and other logisticsManage all project-related documents and files to ensure materials are current and properly filedMotivating people involved in the project to complete tasks on timeManage Donor Database on fundraising software Coordinate the end of the mass mailing for fundraisingAnswer phone calls, provide information to callers, or connect callers to appropriate people.Work with volunteers to support in maintaining organizational digital and physical archives. Provide support with managing interns and volunteersPlan meetings and take detailed minutes, and coordinate follow-up action items.Providing support to the board or other committees on specific projectsOrganize and conduct training for board, staff, and volunteersMonitor and document organization expenditures according to budget (organize receipts, invoices, purchase supplies, etc.); file auditing and filing dutiesMaintain confidentiality regarding all organization, donors, participants, board, and staff issues Coordinate transportation needs (field trips, staff trips, ubers etc.)Maintains ALWH’s office and online store (t-shirt sales)


Bachelor’s degree Car and license needed COVID-19 vaccination recommendedFour or more years of experience with nonprofits, schools, university, or galleriesSelf-motivated, strong, independent self-starterExcellent oral, written communication, and technology skillsExtremely well organized and attentive to detail; Ability to delegate effectivelyHigh energy, collaborative attitude, and foster teamworkAble to work within tight deadlines; Ability to multitask on projectsExperience with creative and solution-oriented problem solvingAdvanced computer skills with strong MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).Experience and comfortability working with young people A demonstrated commitment to ALWH’s mission to end violence against women and girls and Black feminist values A strong understanding of the art and social justice framework and grassroots organizingCompletion of a minimum of 40-hours of sexual assault training by an Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault member center within 90 days of hire is required


Due to COVID-19, the senior administrator works remotely. The position will shift to a hybrid model of remote and in-person for summer and in late fall 2021 programming.


Compensation is Up to $65k and commensurate with experienceRetirement plan, Generous vacation, Up to $2000 Professional Development, 100% ALWH paid Health and Dental Insurance provided by BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois- PPO Plan.After first the two years, a 30 day paid sabbatical Position is exempt, full-time, and reports to the Executive Director
