The Goodman Theatre seeks a School and Teacher Development Manager to be an integral part of Education and Engagement team. This individual will work with dramaturgs, producers, ticket services and our experienced staff on a four (4) show school subscription season, our annual production of A Christmas Carol, and select special events. This position will require evening and weekend hours on an as needed basis.


In collaboration with Director, manage, oversee, and support all aspects of Goodman Theatre’s school-based education programs, including School Matinee Series, Disney Musicals in Schools, Stage Chemistry, and teacher professional development workshops.

  • Develop, deliver, and teach a diverse mix of synchronous and asynchronous learning content and programming both in-person and virtual
  • Design and develop interactive and engaging learning content for teachers across subject areas, including study guides and in-class resources
  • Publish and upload online learning content to Schoology, Goodman’s Learning Management System; analyze utilization data (e.g., learning hotspots and favorable content; curriculum and lesson plan completion monitoring and trouble spots; teacher and school compliance
  • In collaboration with Ticket Services and Director, select, schedule, ticket and manage compliance for all school matinee performances
  • Conduct evaluations to monitor and report effectiveness of professional development and provided resources
  • Ensure compliance with all Chicago Public School and Illinois State Board of Education requirements
  • Work cross-departmentally with Artistic, Production, Development and Communications to facilitate timely communications to access resources, staffing and scheduling constraints

  • Master’s Degree in Education required
  • Minimum three years directly related work experience
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills; strong research and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of the concepts, practices and procedures of the Instructional Design and Curriculum Development fields
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, meet deadlines and set and manage priorities
  • Ability to foster learning using strategies that engage adult learners in critical inquiry, critical thinking, and problem solving, and that develop competence in learners
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Schoology and Google Classroom Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with In-Design and Tessitura a plus
  • Fluency in Spanish highly desirable


Goodman Theatre offers a competitive salary in the $45,000-$55,000 range and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, paid vacation, sick leave, and 401K.
