Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions Position Summary

Responsible for supporting daily operations in the Office of Graduate Admissions and recruiting and enrolling prospective students for School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) graduate programs. Meets and counsels inquiring, applying, and admitted students throughout the annual admissions cycle; serving as central liaison between prospective students, admissions staff, faculty, financial services, and international affairs.

  • Support office management and operations with Graduate Admissions Director, two Assistant Directors, Graduate Coordinator, and graduate student staff.
  • Hire and oversee graduate student ambassadors serving as graduate campus tour guides and clerical office assistants. Adjust and maintain campus tour routes and script as needed.
  • Troubleshooting of online platforms and software for tracking event attendance, enrollment data, preparing admission reviews, and general record keeping, including PeopleSoft, Slideroom, Gmail, GCal, and Google Drive, Microsoft Word and Excel, and SalesForce
  • Support plans for the annual fall and spring travel on and off campus event calendar including cities for Graduate Meet-ups, Graduate SAIC Days, National Graduate Portfolio Days, college fairs, conferences, Graduate Interview Weekend, and Admitted Student Receptions
  • Attend and help manage on-campus and select off-campus events
  • Track and record the history of prospective to enrolled students in attendance
  • Serve as the named admissions liaison for 8 primary graduate departments, and indirectly liaise with all other graduate departments as needed or required
  • Provide attentive, meaningful assistance to admitted graduate students, connecting them to faculty, campus resources, and alumni towards making an enrollment decision
  • Maintains membership in relevant professional organizations
  • Maintains an understanding of the latest trends in student recruitment and willingness to stay current regarding cultural competency knowledge and lead with a Diversity Equity and Inclusion lens
  • Oversee daily operations of Graduate Admissions in the absence of the Director of Graduate Admissions
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Graduate Admissions


  • Master of Arts, in an area of Visual Arts, Design or equivalent graduate degree
  • Prior admissions experience preferred, preferably from an art or design institution
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Required extensive evening and weekend work
  • Frequent travel; Valid driver's license is required
  • A strong familiarity with and interest in modern and contemporary art, design; and with local and international trends in said areas; a plus.
