Poster Restoration Assistant

Chicago Poster Restoration is accepting applications for a full time apprenticeship position in our linen backing operation. We are seeking a craftsperson/artist who is dependable, energetic, detail oriented and a self-starter. Previous experience is not required, but experience in stretching large canvas and handling works of art on paper is a plus. It pays $14.50 to start, an increase in hourly wage to be determined after a trial period.

Linen backing is an archival process where vintage or collectable posters are adhered to a specially prepared canvas with a ph neutral backing paper. We use all water based adhesives, specifically, but not limited to, wheat starch paste and other materials that are easily reversible with water. Duties would include stretching canvas, backing posters, and some poster restoration. I can promise an active day, the work is physical for the most part and will require occasional heavy lifting.

If you are interested, please provide a letter of intent, a resume with references and examples of your art work.
