Part-Time Permanent Retail Assistant at Arts-driven Boutique
Neighborly is looking for both permanent part-time retail assistant in our brick and mortar and at off-site events/pop-ups for weekend and weekday evening hours (specific schedules tbd). The job candidate must be up to the challenge of providing excellent customer service and learning the details about our unique products and vendors.
Part-time Permanent Retail Assistant (14-30 hrs/wk)
This is a paid hourly position to start in the next 2-4 weeks and may be up to 40 hours/week during the holidays, based on availability.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in retail or merchandising, and an interest in independently made products, home goods, furniture, and/or the arts in general and will excel in a small business working environment. They are reliable, demonstrate a stellar attitude when providing customer service, feel comfortable wearing many hats, be a quick learner, be very organized and pay close attention to details.
This position will be a direct assistant to the shop manager and is an integral asset to our small team. It offers the opportunity to be involved in the many facets of our business, besides the tasks listed below, like storefront window design, merchandising, marketing and social media efforts. The position will specifically be expected to:
> Offer stellar customer service, greeting customers, assisting them with product information and recommendations, provide an easy and pleasant shopping and checkout experience.
> Use existing and acquired knowledge to be able to educate customers about the independent maker landscape in Chicago, as well as the basic processes involved in the most common types of professional craft like printmaking, woodworking, ceramics, etc.
> Learn and become a wizard at using our POS system, Shopify, to checkout customers, perform returns, look up products and inventory, generate PO’s, add new products, and process webshop orders.
> Maintain shop to be clean and orderly with basic tasks like folding Tshirts, rearranging out of place products, sweeping, cleaning floor, dusting shelves, removing trash and recycling, etc,
> Learn in detail about our products, where and how they’re made and who they’re made by.
> Receive product; unpack and check products for damage or defects, check quantities received against PO or invoice, receive inventory in POS, tag and prep for display, add to floor or put in storage as needed, clean up and discard of shipping materials. Follow up with shop manager or vendor with any issues.
> Communicate with vendors as needed to follow up on orders, damages, etc.
> Restock shelves when items sell, similarly, replace artwork on wall as needed.
> Establish checks to notify shop manager when inventory of a product is low.
> Restock supplies in checkout area.
> Staff special events, based on availability.
