Part-time Teaching Artist Job

Overview: Once Upon Our Time Capsule is looking for a passionate, creative self-starter who is excited about the power of youth voice and storytelling. You’ll join our small but mighty team on a mission to amplify the voices of kids across America, starting right here in Chicago.

Once Upon Our Time Capsule first launched as a project in Chicago in 2021 to elevate and honor the voices and stories of kids living through the pandemic. Through a reimagining of the classic time capsule, we will create an annual ritual that helps kids across America reflect on and share their stories, and then amplifies their voices and perspectives for all to hear and learn from.

What you will do:

Regularly facilitate workshops in schools and after-school programs focused primarily, though not exclusively, in grades 3-8. Program partners will be across the city, though concentrated on the West and South sidesSupport curriculum and program designHelp manage engagement and relationship with partner organizations across Chicago to ensure their needs are metSupport programming logistics (digital archiving of kids stories; materials coordination)

Experience you’ll need to bring to the role:

Passion for storytelling and the arts;An entrepreneurial spirit and a can-do attitude;Experience as a teacher, teaching artist, and/or youth programming leadExperience working with culturally diverse groups of students in a variety of school environments Experience working with youth in grades 3-8; Expertise in arts education, literacy, and/or social sciences. Experience with Social Emotional Learning and/or teaching trauma-informed curriculum a plus.Ability to respond to shifting priorities and support multiple aspects of program delivery. urMust have access to a car or reliable transportation.


Contract role with pay at $35-40 /hour at ~20hours a month.


September through mid-February with the potential for an extended engagement
