Ox-Bow Housekeeping Assistant

Position Classification: Seasonal, Full Time, Non-Exempt, Salaried

Compensation: $16.00/hr; Eligible for Overtime, Paid Time Off, and Paid Holidays; Daily Meals Included

POSITION SUMMARY

Ox-Bow School of Art is an 113-year old art school and artists’ residency. The Housekeeping Assistant supports the upkeep of excellent standards of hygiene and sanitation throughout campus spaces. The primary task of this position will be to clean indoors campus facilities per CDC-recommended standards. The Housekeeping Assistant will have a careful eye for detail and aesthetic considerations, ensuring that Ox-Bow’s spaces are both functional and cheerful. Working closely with the Housekeeping Manager, the Assistant will have the opportunity to offer their ideas on best practices and systems.

This position is ideal for candidates within a 40-mile commuting radius. Limited on-site housing may be available for candidates beyond that range. This position will run from mid-April to mid-November, and may include evening and weekend hours. This position is a 1-year contract with the option for annual renewal up to 3-years pending satisfactory performance review.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean common areas, stairwells, hallways, bathrooms per CDC recommendations
  • Sweep, mop, wipe down surfaces
  • Turnover lodging spaces in between guests’ occupancy, including cabins and dorm rooms, in a timely manner
  • Laundry
  • Take out trash
  • Organize costume closet
  • Clean windows and other cleaning detail work as assigned
  • Maintain an excellent level of aesthetic care and special touches for all student and guest spaces
  • Other housekeeping duties as assigned
  • Communicate Housekeeping standards to fellows and work study students working in that area; work alongside those fellows and students
  • Other project- and event-based support as determined by the Campus Director; including but not limited to office, maintenance, and hospitality support

EDUCATION/JOB EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

  • Experience in housekeeping or related professional area
  • Experience in hospitality, arts, and/or creative field preferred

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • An eye for detail
  • Must be a team player, able to work independently as well as in a group
  • Must be innovative, reliable, patient, tenacious
  • Must be able to travel to and from Ox-Bow Saugatuck campus and/or various vender locations in the West Michigan region
  • A passion for the arts preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to stand, bend, and routinely lift housekeeping supplies and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain including stairs
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in high heat and humidity
  • Ability to work around potentially hazardous materials and loud noise
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment correctly for most of the day while organizational COVID-19 safety protocols are in place
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
