Metalworking & Forging Instructor, Teen and Adult
The Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center (CIADC) is growing! To meet our needs, we are looking for a Metalworking & Forging instructor for the Summer 10-week term and beyond. The ideal candidate would be available to start the week of June 24, and have the flexibility to teach possible daytime, evening, and weekend class times. We’re looking for someone who can teach fundamental skills to a diverse audience, and who would bring a unique, creative mindset to our organization. This person should be enthusiastic in working within our dynamic industrial arts school and want to be a part of our creative community. Compensation is based on qualifications and experience. CIADC is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates should possess: • strong fabricated and/or forged metalwork portfolio (primarily mild steel): sculptural, functional, and/or ornamental • stainless, aluminum, and bronze fabrication experience a plus • well versed in metal fabrication safety including personal protective equipment, shop and hand tool use, etc. • confidence to enforce safety and policies set by CIADC • teaching experience with adult age groups, all ability levels and interests; experience teaching Teens (ages 12-15) a plus • exceptional communication skills • strong familiarity with oxy/acetylene welding, cutting, heating, and brazing • ability to teach ARC, MIG, and TIG welding, and Plasma cutting • familiar with various cold connections and metal manipulation techniques, including forge work • strong forging background a plus To Apply: Send cover letter, resume, low res images (or URL link) of 5-10 fabricated metal objects personally created within the last 3 years, plus 3 professional references to: email@example.com CIADC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Rogers Park. We have 4 in-depth Departments of Casting & Molding, Metalworking & Forging, Technology & Design, and Woodworking. CIADC offers classes and community workspace use for any interest and skill level!
