Material Source Manager


Supervise the daily operations of the Material Source department storefronts by hiring and managing student employees, coordinating deliveries and restocking, and assisting in maintaining an accurate inventory of Material Source storefronts and storage spaces. Maintain the systems and facilities that provide access to these Instructional Resources for faculty, departments and students.

  • Responsible for maintaining an accurate inventory of various Material Source storefronts and storage spaces by performing weekly cycle counts and assisting in bi-annual audits. Responsible for keeping all Material Source locations fully stocked on a daily basis. Oversee stock levels at offsite warehouse, manage logistics of ordering and receiving materials there as well as distribution of those materials to and from campus.
  • Schedule, coordinate and assist with regular cycle counts. Evaluate stock needs and document predicted sales to assist the Assistant Director with procurement needs.
  • Update price lists, websites and social media accounts on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate the design and implementation of storefront and in-store signage.
  • Provide continuous daily support and training of 20-30 student employees. Consult with the Assistant Director of Material Source regarding the evaluation, promotion and discipline of student workers.
  • Work closely with the Material Source Coordination and Distribution Manager to coordinate, receive, and distribute deliveries to all Material Source Locations including the offsite warehouse.
  • Drive the school’s van in moving materials between school buildings and from Chicago-area vendors.


  • Valid driver's license, ability to drive required
  • Retail or stockroom/warehouse experience
  • Computing skills such as Word, Excel, and using databases
  • Experience supervising employees
  • Ability to operate manual or powered hand pallet jacks, forklifts, banding tools, hand tools
  • Ability to lift with assistance up to 100 lbs above shoulder height
  • Ability to climb a short ladder
  • Daily bending and twisting
  • Almost daily lifting with assistance of various goods of up to 100 lbs each
  • Frequent pushing of a cart or of up to 500 lbs
  • Frequent lifting of 25 lbs from floor height to a shelf 4’ high
  • Frequent walking several blocks between SAIC buildings
