Marketing and Sales Manager

Summary: Under the leadership of Artistic Director Chay Yew and Executive Director Erica Daniels, Victory Gardens Theater is dedicated to artistic excellence while creating a vital, contemporary American Theater that is accessible and relevant to all people through quality productions of challenging new plays and musicals.

Victory Gardens is a leader in developing and producing new theatre work and cultivating an inclusive theater community. The theater’s core strengths are nurturing and producing dynamic and inspiring new plays, reflecting the diversity of our city’s and nation’s culture through engaging diverse communities, and in partnership with Chicago Public Schools, bringing art and culture to our city’s active student population.

The Marketing and Sales Manager is a full-time exempt position (40 hours/week).

Position reports to the Director of Marketing

Duties are as follows:

The Marketing and Sales Manager’s objective is to generate revenue primarily by fostering group sales, creating and executing opportunities with third party sellers, develop partnerships with organizations that foster awareness for VG as well as further ticket goals, and seek new and creative ways to increase both group and single ticket sales.

● Key responsibilities:

o Design, implement, and oversee group sales campaign including lead generation, direct marketing promotions, market research and analysis, and goal setting and achievement

o Help to create pricing and incentives to reach group sales goals

o With Director of Marketing plan and implement marketing, promotional, and grassroots strategies designed to enhance awareness of VG and achieve sales goals; seek out new customers (both group and individual) and sales opportunities to drive revenue

o Maintain current group sales marketing materials and assist to create an effective marketing schedule focused on various group sales segments

o Build long term relationships with key contact: corporate, non-profit, hospitality, government, and other

o Effectively execute and manage every element of the group sales process

o Keep accurate records of outreach activities and contacts

o Track conversations and identify where we are with each contact/organization in the sales process

o Oversee all transactions/relationships with groups of 10 – 40 people

o Prospect potential new clients, conduct cold calls, attend networking events, to consistently build new relationships

o Plan and execute Group Leader Event

o Conduct timely post-event follow-ups with clients to ensure the highest customer service is offered

o Launch VG’s Creative Works “Artistic Solutions in Corporate Training’

o Manage our third party partners (Goldstar, HotTix, Today Tix)

o Create preferred partner locations- hotel, catering partners, and restaurant sponsors

o Ad Buys for Programs

o Work with Executive Director and Administrative and Finance Associate on driving rentals and VG Conservatory Classes.

Skills:

● Self-motivated, competitive, understands that theatre has no shelf life - an empty seat can never be reclaimed.

● Have a flair for selling and building relationships with individuals and organizations

● Excellent sales techniques; ability to spot opportunities and go after them with gusto

● Ability to work independently while keeping supervisors informed

● Detail-oriented and able to manage numerous important projects concurrently and effectively motivate staff to meet strict deadlines

● Experience working within multicultural and multi-ethnic environments

● Strategic and analytical skills

● Creative problem-solving skills

● Excellent verbal and written skills

● Proven organizational skills

● Comfort and ability to thrive in public facing position

● Computer literacy

● Enthusiasm for team building

● Interest in and knowledge of theatre/performing arts

● Knowledge of Spektrix a plus

Compensation:

Salary is competitive within the non-profit performing arts industry and commensurate with qualification and experience. Excellent benefits package.
