Managing Director

Red Clay Dance Company (RCDC) lives to awaken "glocal" change through creating, performing and teaching African Diaspora inspired work---change that transforms cultural and socio-economic imbalances in our local and global community.”

RCDC is excited to request applications for a new Managing Director. This position reports to and works in partnership with the Artistic Director/CEO to provide leadership and nurture the artists, staff, and board towards exemplifying the organization’s mission, vision, and core values. Within this partnership, the Managing Director is responsible for executing the Artistic Director’s artistic vision into initiatives that excite our staff, artists, and community.

The Managing Director will be responsible for providing oversight and management of the organization’s day-to-day operations, implementing the strategic plan, and working closely with the Artistic Director/CEO and Board of Directors to ensure fiscal health. RCDC recently launched a 3-year strategic plan to increase our organizational capacity and brand excellence. This plan includes building a state-of-the-art facility for the organization and scaling our programming for national and international reach. We seek a leader with demonstrated management skills who is innovative, efficient, and collaborative. Our ideal candidate will be self-directed, detail-focused, and eager to establish close working relationships that support an equitable and anti-racist organizational culture.

Direct Reports: Marketing Consultant, PR Consultant, Special Events Coordinator, Academy Coordinator and Office Manager/Admin Asst.

Shared Direct Reports: Artistic Associates and Development Consultant

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Human Resource Management

The Managing Director will maintain a solid infrastructure to select, develop, manage and support our people and culture.

Manage the execution of the Strategic plan. Manage all HR processes and procedures for the organization. Oversee the hiring, management, development and retention of non-artistic staff. Manage short- and long-term plans for employees professional development. Foster a collaborative, equitable and anti-racist atmosphere that nurtures trust and cohesion within the organization. Ensure all operations are carried out in an appropriate, cost-effective way Manage updates to policy and procedures, employee and independent contractor manuals. Financial Management

The Managing Director will provide informed financial management that advances the mission and elevate earned and contributed revenue opportunities.

Collaborate with Artistic Director/CEO to establish annual operating budget. Manage operations, budget reporting, cash flow and administration. Support the Artistic Director/CEO in the creation of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial oversight reports to the Board Treasurer for review. Maintain appropriate financial policies and procedures for internal controls while proactively addressing audit issues. Ensure that financial activities comply with generally accepted accounting practices. Ensure the timely execution of required financial audits and tax filings. Ensure the highest levels of excellence in the delivery of outstanding service to donors and supporters in partnership with the Development Consultant. In partnership with our Development Consultant, actively participate in the cultivation and solicitation of major donors, individuals, foundations, corporations, and government Support fundraising for the organization through sponsorships, naming rights and underwriting, events, annual campaigns, and the planned capital campaign.

The Managing Director will create opportunities that further Red Clay Dance’s vision & mission including:

Continue to grow RCDC as the trend-setter for integrating elite professional dance creation, performance & teaching. Nurture and enhance appropriate strategic partnerships in the community that advance the goals of the organization.

Brand Excellence

The Managing Director will manage and elevate the experience of the brand through every RCDC touchpoint, both internal and external.

In partnership with the Marketing Consultant, ensure consistent branding; develop and execute marketing strategy; Develop strategies to increase quality of customer service. Note: This role may also include other duties as assigned. At which time they will be clearly defined and communicated.

Ability to understand lengthy and detailed contracts and negotiate terms. QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree required (degree in Arts Management, Non-profit management or Business preferred) A minimum of 1-3 years in non-profit management and fundraising. Grant writing experience preferred Understanding of prudent financial management over a minimum six figure annual budget. Knowledge of basic HR procedures. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Sharepoint, and Quickbooks Proficiency with social media platforms COMPENSATION: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

This position requires some evening and weekend work hours.While the company is not currently able to provide Health Care (Medical/Dental/Life insurance) benefits, it is our goal to be able to do so in the near future.
