Literary Magazine Internship

Awakenings is a certified 501-c-3 dedicated to making visible the artistic expression of survivors of sexual violence. We have a small gallery space in Ravenswood with the only known collection of survivor art. We hold a wide variety of year round programming, ranging from exhibit openings, to concerts, to monthly art making nights. We partner with rape crisis centers, counselors, art therapists, local activists, and like-minded nonprofits. We are growing rapidly and want to spread the word, expand our community, and widen the resources we are able to offer survivors.

Goals and Objectives:

An ideal intern for Awakenings will be passionate about our mission, a self-starter, and able to see projects all the way through. The Literary intern will primarily work in the two following areas

  • Literary Magazine: Awakened Voices magazine publishes issues twice a year with two additional branches of the magazine which publish once a month. This is a small magazine with many writers submitting work. You will work directly with the Program Director to learn the design concept and general layout of the materials needed, and then edit, create, and respond to materials in Google Docs, Submittable, and Adobe.
  • Website: Awakened Voices primarily exists as an online magazine. The ability to work with or to learn how to work with website software to update and add content is a must.

Must be passionate about our mission. Must be currently enrolled in or have graduated from an accredited college or university. Must have writing experience.
