Lighting and Video Supervisor

Position Summary

A member of the production team and reporting to the Production Manager, the Lighting and Video Supervisor collaborates with production staff and contracted personnel to ensure the design, installation, operation and removal of lighting and video elements for the production season and special events. They also support the Production Manager with the day to day upkeep of the theatre facilities’ lighting fixtures and run lights for all mainstage shows.

The Lighting and Video Supervisor will play a key role in creating, managing and maintaining the working environment in the theatre. They will also work closely with actors, designers, directors, crew and staff to shepherd a production process that is focused on supportive, sustainable, and anti-racist practices.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hire and supervise per show and seasonal electrics and video positions to install, focus and maintain lighting and video systems
  • Take a lead role in the scheduling, planning, budgeting, renting, ordering and financial management and implementation of all lighting and video elements for mainstage productions and other events as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with designers to reach a final lighting and/or video product which is in-line with design intent while meeting industry standard safety practices, established deadlines and budgetary parameters
  • Maintain all lighting and video tools and equipment in accordance with the best industry standard practices for safety.
  • Attend and participate in design and production meetings
  • Attend technical rehearsals and preview performances as assigned
  • Oversee and lead all load-ins and strikes of lighting and video elements for each production
  • Serve as light board operator and/or video operator for all performances of each mainstage show.
  • Coordinate the purchase and replacement of facilities lamps for the theatre.
  • Manage and execute required show maintenance on lighting and video elements.
  • Participate in organization-wide anti-racism work and incorporate an anti-racist lens into daily practice.   • Minimum of 3 years of experience in theatrical lighting, or a related field
  • Demonstrated managerial experience, preferably with a performing arts organization
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and motivate teams within a welcoming and sustainable work environment
  • Ability to prioritize and offer a high degree of support under dynamic and emergent conditions
  • Significant hands-on experience in theatrical lighting, including wiring and electronics, atmospherics, theatrical fixtures and lighting networks
  • Working knowledge and experience with projection systems and equipment, including video playback software
  • Skill with repair and maintenance of lighting equipment and accessories.
  • Advanced knowledge of Vectorworks and Lightwright
  • A desire to learn and implement varying technologies and materials
  • Advanced knowledge of ETC boards
  • Must be comfortable with harness work at heights of up to 25’, repeatedly ascend/descend stairs and move equipment of up to 50 lbs
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a large cargo van
  • Ability to work nights and weekends for technical rehearsals and mainstage productions
  • Ability to work remotely as needed.
