The Kalapriya Foundation, Center for Indian Performing Arts presents India’s artistic diversity through the performing arts (dance, music, theater, and story-telling) that preserve traditional South Asian art forms and build bridges between the performing arts and our contemporary lives.

Kalapriya is recognized as one of the foremost South Asian performing arts organizations in the City of Chicago. Kalapriya’s K-12 educational programs include In-School residencies, After School Arts Program, and the Summer Camp program. Kalapriya is seeking to hire a part-time Summer Camp Coordinator for its 2021 Summer Camp Program – Journey Through South Asia.

The Summer Camp Coordinator will manage and implement Kalapriya’s 2021 Summer Camp program, coordinating with Kalapriya’s teaching artists who will deliver the cultural arts enrichment curriculum in dance, music, drama, art, and social studies. The Summer Camp Coordinator will be assisted by two Summer Youth Employment in the Arts Interns in the delivery and coordination of the program. The Summer Camp Coordinator will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the Summer Camp program, including:

o managing the program schedule

o scheduling teaching artists

o coordinating curriculum delivery with teaching artists

o supervising two high school student interns

o communicating with parents/caregivers

o insuring safety-health protocols are followed and maintained

o all other duties necessary for the successful implementation of the Summer Camp program.

This is a part-time seasonal position beginning June 21 - August 27, 2021. The Summer Camp Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and Director of Programs and Community Outreach. The position is a 10-week, Monday-Friday position. The successful candidate must be available for work between 8AM – 2PM, 30 hours/week during the 6 weeks of the Summer Camp Schedule (July 12-August 30). The position hours will begin at 15-20 hours/week between June 21-July 9 for program final planning/preparation. The position hours increase to 30 hours/week during the Summer Camp Program (July 12-August 20), and will conclude with a final wrap-up week (August 23-27) at 15-20 hours/week.

The selected candidate must have experience working with elementary school children preferably in an arts setting. The candidate should have a passion for working with and mentoring youth. Experience managing high school students or interns is desirable. Demonstrated initiative, motivation and strong communication skills are required. Experience and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting is also essential. Previous experience as a summer camp counselor, teacher, or manager is desirable.

Compensation is competitive, based on education, qualifications, and demonstrated experience
