General Music Teaching Artists
Changing Worlds, an arts and cultural education organization, seeks passionate, highly professional, and adaptable music educators to teach in our Arts and Cultural Connections after-school and in-school programs for students in PreK-3rd grade. This is an independent contractor position for school year 2021-2022.
The General Music program requires artist knowledge of various musical pedagogies to create well rounded lessons that utilize singing, movement, music history, diverse musical styles, and various forms of instrumentation. Musical kits are created and used to assist in furthering sound exploration and music literacy. Classes support the development of every participating child’s skill building in the arts, interpersonal skills, and motor skills. Students explore music in different cultural contexts, and classroom teachers learn strategies to incorporate music into their everyday curriculum. Class lengths are typically 30-45 minutes and are supported by a Classroom Teacher.
Build lesson plans that are responsive to Changing Worlds curriculum framework.
Teach students basic music comprehension in a hands-on approach: steady beat, rhythm, melody and pitch, healthy vocal production, responsive movement, basic reading and rhythmic notation, critical thinking through music, and developing literacy through music.
Display effective classroom management skills (with varying class sizes 12-25 students and a cooperating teacher).
Generate creative, detailed written unit and lesson plans with culturally relevant, trauma informed teaching practice, and age-appropriate activities and submit to the program manager.
Create an environment that teaches students how to share and work together. Provide a safe, accepting classroom environment that allows students to take risks and evolve individually through music.
Collaborate and communicate efficiently with assigned classroom teachers and build rapport with school administrative staff.
Document activities and engage in the classroom assessment and evaluation processes.
Adhere to professional and workplace guidelines as required by Changing Worlds.
Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
