Gallery Manager

DOCUMENT is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Gallery Manager to join its Chicago team in June 2023. The ideal candidate will have a strong registrar profile with experience in the commercial art world, and excellent organizational and communication skills. Position is full time with benefits and requires work during gallery open hours, Tuesday-Saturday 10am-6pm.

Responsibilities include:

  • Obtain shipping quotes, organize and oversee local, domestic and international shipments for exhibitions and art fairs
  • Arrange for safe and timely delivery of client purchases
  • Enter, manage and update all inventory records in the database and organize digital files
  • Write consignments, loan agreements and Certificates of Authenticity
  • Prepare and pack artworks for shipments
  • Maintain and update website and digital photographic archive
  • General assistance in daily operations of the gallery and when the Owner and Partner are traveling.
  • Contribute and schedule posts to social media platforms
  • Compose and send email campaigns
  • Issue invoices and maintain records of payments in the database.
  • Liaise with press contacts on a regular basis

Requirements:

  • Graduate or undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as gallery assistant, registrar or related field
  • Experience in handling artworks, and organizing art shipments
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, multitask, and work as part of a small team.
  • Friendly, positive and professional manner

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite, Mac and Google Suite
  • Proficiency with ArtLogic is a plus.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and scheduling tools.
  • Understanding of industry best practices for the handling, packing, shipping, and conservation of contemporary art
  • Excellent phone and email demeanor and customer service
  • Demonstrated interest in the contemporary art world at large
  • Strong ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and create clear and organized schedules.
