FT Candle Manufacturing Production Assistant
Embark on a fragrant journey in 2020 with an established independent woman-owned national candle brand. We are seeking a qualified candidate to assist our candle manufacturing production team handcrafting and packaging our candles. We are looking for detail oriented, conscientious, motivated, and enthusiastic individuals who can handle being on their feet most of the day. We’d love to welcome a positive minded person to be part of our team in 2020!
About The Company
Tatine is a Chicago based Design + Manufacturing Studio where a creative team handcrafts our own brand of candles. Located in a sunny warehouse in the former Hammond Organ Factory just west of Logan Square within a community of innovative companies. Tatine is an open concept design-driven artisan studio, office, showroom, warehouse and manufacturing facility which requires close working relationships with all members on staff and all departments. As Tatine begins its eighteenth year, we continue to place meaning in the small details, slow design, hand craftsmanship, bespoke fragrances, and packaging design. Imparting the soul and quality of our handmade goods through each piece to our discerning and established customer base of better boutiques and national specialty retailers, boutique hotels, interior designers, international accounts, and flower boutiques.
We are an incredibly hardworking team looking for other likeminded talent.
As a Candle Manufacturing and Production Assistant you will follow the production schedule and directives with ease and accuracy, communicating with upper management to meet daily production goals. We have many types of projects going on, so you will need the ability to shift gears quickly when asked. Your days will involve loading several hundred pounds of wax into melting vats, mixing fragrance into melted wax, pouring wax into candle vessels, finishing candles to company standard, moving finished candles off production tables to assembly tables, and completing production goals correctly and in a timely manner.
Candle making work is extremely physical work, but we find it appeals to those who have worked in the restaurant industry as the workflow is similar but with the added benefit of a 9-5 schedule! A few must-haves: You must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly and have the ability to stand on your feet between 6 to 8 hours per day. There will be a lot of repeated bending, reaching, lifting, and set up/re-set up of glassware. As you will be working hands-on with the candles you must be able to tolerate direct contact with fragrance oils and essential oils.
You must be self- motivated, careful, attentive, and on task at all times in production. This is a rigorous, hardworking, and physical position and is the backbone of what we do here at Tatine. Math skills are an added plus.
You will be expected to show up on time and maintain good attendance! You will also keep the studio stocked with materials, break down boxes for recycling, and clean and organize the studio at the end of the day. Your handcrafting skills will be crucial as the candle making process is integral to a quality product output. We need someone who can maintain focus, skill, and speed to help us maintain our output goals. You will also provide production assembly back up as needed on a daily basis, which will involve wick preparation, setting up glassware, labeling and cleaning finished candles, assembling handcrafted packaging carefully, which involves folding and pleating paper, assembling boxes, putting labels on boxes, and case-packing product and getting it on the shelf for our wholesale customers.
These tasks require handwork, skill and attention to detail and an attitude that no task is too menial and all assignments are treated with value.
Each department is assigned daily clean up at the end of each production day to maintain a safe and clean working environment. You will also be responsible for weekly cleanup of our communal kitchen and production areas.
This position will be fully trained, but prior experience in manufacturing, restaurant work, or artisan production is strongly desired.
Candidates should maintain a positive attitude under pressure, exhibit a strong work ethic as well as kindness and thoughtfulness to all persons on staff. Negative attitudes left at the door please.
If you have serious interest in this position, and would like to join a pleasing company culture, we'd love to hear from you!
