Front Desk Reception | The Art Center Highland Park

The Organization:

The Art Center Highland Park (TACHP) is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to education in the contemporary arts through classes, outreach programs, gallery exhibitions and arts related events. TACHP is a community-based organization whose goal is to ensure access to the arts for all ages and cultural interests. The Art Center Highland Park is an Illinois 501(c)3 not for profit organization.

The Position:

The front desk receptionist maintains office services by organizing all of the office operations and procedures. The front desk receptionist will handle customer service for the public both in-person and over the phone. The front desk receptionist will support the other professional staff throughout TACHP.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:


Answer the phone, handle email inquiries, welcome guests to TACHP and ensure they are helped or introduced to the correct person. In addition to providing customer service to the public they will be responsible for managing the internal communication between the staff.

Create and maintain all organizational forms, including letters, applications and any class registration correspondence emails.


Process all payments for classes, including mailed, online and phoned-in payments. Maintain all class rosters and support data and record keeping.


Assist the development efforts for TACHP, which includes accepting donations, assisting with donor correspondence and tax receipts. Work with development staff prior to and during all fundraising events.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

The front desk receptionist will manage the TACHP store, which will include sales, acquisition of new items to sell, inventory maintenance and payment processing. Support the bookkeeper and the curator where needed. Purchase and maintain an inventory of all office supplies.

Employment Type:

Ideally, candidate will begin early August and work two days a week in the office. Office hours are 9am-5pm. Salary is commensurate with experience.


We are a small, dedicated staff who work in a friendly office setting, with a beautiful gallery space to walk around, meditate and take breaks in. Located in the heart of Highland Park on the Northshore of Illinois, TACHP is just a 10 minute walk from the beach and surrounded by lots of charming, family-oriented shops and restaurants. Certainly a community feel, but with ambitions to broaden our scope and attract an increasing number of out of state artists.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3 years experience in a customer service position or office administrative position.
  • Arts background / interest in art and arts education (preferred)
  • Experience with exhibitions coordination (preferred)
  • Nonprofit experience (preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of clerical practices and procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
