Executive Managing Director
The mission of the Nashville Shakespeare Festival is to educate and entertain the Mid-South community through professional Shakespearean experiences.
The Festival enriches and unifies our community with bold, innovative and relevant productions along with empowering, participatory educational programs, setting the community standard of excellence in educational outreach and performances of Shakespeare’s plays.
The Nashville Shakespeare Festival (NSF) seeks a people-first, servant leader with excellent development/fundraising and managerial skills to serve as its Executive Managing Director (EMD).
The ideal candidate will bring a collaborative, entrepreneurial approach to creative problem-solving skills. The EMD will be primarily responsible for:
establishing development and fundraising strategies to ensure the ability of the organization to fulfill its mission, and maintain financial viability;overseeing NSF business functions, ongoing administration, and operational management;mentoring and developing staff who implement and run daily operations with a focus on improving quality and efficiency in each of their functional areas, including marketing, grants manager, and operations manager; andwork closely with the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and other Board Committees to maximize the organization’s ability to fulfill its mission. The EMD reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Leadership & Management:
Serve as NSF’s primary spokesperson to its constituents, the media, and the general public.Actively engage, communicate, and energize current and prospective funders, partner organizations, board members, and other key stakeholders.Work with staff and the board to coordinate consistent quality improvements in fundraising, finance, administration, operations, marketing, and communications.Recommend and champion resources and timelines needed to achieve NSF’s strategic goals.Lead the planning, organization, and direction of NSF operations including establishing policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operations. Mentor and develop staff in their respective duties and functional areas. Board Governance:Report to, develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors.Serve as ex-officio of all board committees.Seek and increase board involvement with strategic direction for ongoing operations, organizational policies, procedures, and overall visibility.Cultivate, train, engage, and work alongside the Board of Directors and committees. Organizational Strategy:
Implement the goals of NSF’s strategic plan and coordinate initiatives to ensure the plan’s goals are fulfilled in alignment with NSF’s mission.Revenue/Fundraising:
Cultivate, establish, and maintain ongoing relationships with diverse partner organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance NSF’s mission and resources.Collaborate with the marketing team to refine all aspects of communications – from web presence to external relations – with the goal of creating a stronger brand.Expand local revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and future expansion.Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.Oversee and maintain accurate and timely results, variance, and performance trend analyses to understand, fine-tune, and communicate development and fundraising strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience and development/fundraising experience. Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and arts organizations (nonprofit or for-profit) is a big plus.
The EMD must be thoroughly committed to NSF’s mission.
Specific requirements include:
5+ years of professional nonprofit management experience or equivalent training;strong public relations and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures;track record of effectively leading and scaling (regionally and nationally) performance- and outcome-based organizations;ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth;excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget;past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships;strong written and verbal communication skills;a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills;the ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people; andintegrity, optimism, passion, and sense of mission.
SALARY & BENEFITS
$75,000 per year
NSF recognizes the following paid holidays each year:∙ New Year’s Day∙ Martin Luther King, Jr. Day∙ Memorial Day∙ Juneteenth National Independence Day∙ Independence Day∙ Labor Day∙ Thanksgiving Day∙ Day after Thanksgiving∙ December 25th
10 Days annually after one year of employment.
Full-time, permanent employees, who use their own vehicles and fuel, when making work-related trips, to destinations which are 40 miles or more from the NSF office may apply for reimbursement at the then current IRS approved rate for mileage reimbursement.
