Donor Engagement Manager

TITLE: Donor Engagement Manager


DEPARTMENT: Development


Reporting to the Director of Donor Engagement, the Donor Engagement Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with the Director, Development Office leadership, volunteer leadership and volunteers, and staff across the CSOA to ensure a consistent and proactive approach to donor engagement and recognition of trustees and CSOA donors.


  1. In partnership with department fundraisers, collaborate, manage, and implement projects that proactively steward major gift donor relationships as part of the CSOA’s moves management process. Work to develop strategy for recognition and stewardship activities, including but not limited to, stewardship events; gifts; special recognition; and customized experiences.
  2. Work with the donor engagement team to assist in the preparation and implementation of fundraising and donor benefit events, such as Symphony Ball, Corporate Night and others; participate in the creation and implementation of marketing and promotion strategies; and support the team with event logistics, including but not limited to, managing reservation lists; creating table and place cards, nametags, and other event materials.
  3. Manage writing projects within the donor engagement area, including but not limited to, fundraising event solicitation letters and materials; annual fund letters and materials; volunteer programs web pages; remarks and event briefs; and drafting, editing, and proof reading as needed.
  4. In partnership with the Senior Donor Engagement Manager, collaborate and implement Women’s Board activities with regards to the group’s fundraising events; community engagement activities; membership recruitment and retention; meetings; as well as other areas as they arise.
  5. Collaborate in the planning of CSO international and national Patrons’ Tours, including but not limited to, donor activities and events; sponsor events; and other duties as assigned. Manage the planning of donor and sponsor activities and events for non-Patrons’ Tours as well as coordinate efforts with the Manager of National and International Friends of the CSOA. If needed, serve as on-site event manager during Tour travel.
  6. Plan, manage, and execute bi-annual Chicago Symphony Orchestra Society dinner, a stewardship event for donors whose cumulative giving exceeds $1M.
  7. Manage content and stewardship methods and functionality of The Helen and Richard Thomas Donor Gallery located in the Rotunda. Tasks including but not limited to reviewing and updating online content, photos and videos; printed donor listings; and technology support.
  8. Manage a small portfolio of donors and prospects, including individuals and others as assigned in consultation with Development Office leadership.
  9. Partner with the Donor Engagement Coordinator on executing donor profiles and donor quotes for use in the concert program book and Donor Wall, including conducting interviews (if required), writing, and editing profiles and quotes.
  10. Undertake additional donor engagement related communication projects as necessary. Manage daily details of these special projects as they arise, coordinating the work of all involved parties to ensure that projects are completed on time, are of highest quality, and are within budget.

  1. BA/BS degree is required.
  2. A love and appreciation of music.
  3. Minimum three to five years of proven writing experience as well as donor stewardship and event planning experience.
  4. Demonstrated track record in relationship management with volunteers and donors.
  5. Must be able to handle confidential materials with discretion.
  6. Strong communication and organizational skills with proficiency in attention to detail.
  7. Must have the ability to meet deadlines, while working collaboratively with both members of the development staff and others in the organization.
  8. Able to represent the CSOA in a professional manner both on the phone and in person with volunteers and donors.
  9. Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office, database, and spreadsheet proficiency.


Pleasant office environment.

Hours include evenings and weekends with some travel to off-site venues within the Chicago metro area.
