Development Intern

The Aurora Civic Center Authority (ACCA), an innovative organization located on Stolp Island in the Fox River in the heart of the richly diverse community of historic Aurora, Illinois (one hour from downtown Chicago), is seeking a Development Intern. ACCA is the parent organization, which also includes a 501(c)3 arm under the name of Paramount Arts Centre, Inc. It operates three performance venues: the 6,000-person RiverEdge Park, the 1,843-seat landmark Paramount Theatre, and the 165-seat, newly renovated Copley Theatre. ACCA produces and presents over 300 performances each year, including star-studded touring productions, a self-produced Broadway Series of musicals and the self-produced Bold Series for an annual audience of 350,000 patrons from over 250 communities. ACCA proudly operates the Paramount School of the Arts in the new John C. Dunham Aurora Arts Center, right next door to Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora. Paramount Theatre also hosts free community events, $1 Classic Movie Mondays and its opulent interiors provide a spectacular backdrop for private functions such as wedding receptions or corporate galas. Across the street from Paramount Theatre are the gorgeous Meyer Ballrooms which play host to multiple wedding receptions and rental events throughout the year.

DEPARTMENT –Development

DIRECT REPORTING – Chief Development Officer

WORKS CLOSELY WITH – Development Team, Audience Services, Front of House Department, Special Events

POSITION STATUS & SCHEDULE – Position is seasonal (with the possibility for extensions), part-time hourly with regular evening and weekend hours required.

COMPENSATION – starting at $16/hour

HIRE DATE – Immediate with an ideal start date on, or before, May 31st, 2022

POSITION SUMMARY –Do you have a passion for the arts, and are you eager to grow your skills in your field? Are you looking to grow your professional resume? Are you out-going and curious to know more about fundraising on behalf of a professional theatre? We are looking for a Development Intern who will help us deepen donor relationships with Paramount through personalized and meaningful engagement in-person at performances and special events. The position also collaborates with members of the Development team for day-to-day fundraising projects, programs and other office functions. Additionally, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in arts administration for a community based non-profit. The position requires a highly organized individual with excellent customer service skills and willingness to learn and grow. We expect our Interns to have the availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week and commit to at least 3 months on the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES –

 Meet and host donors while they are attending shows at Paramount Theatre and RiverEdge Park

 Cultivate relationships with donors, as well as potential donors, through personal interactions, thank you calls/emails/notes, and other touch points

 Regular communication with current and prospective donors to assist with donor benefits (i.e. playbill recognition, rsvp’s to donor events, premium guest experience, parking/valet)

 Create and update materials to support Development Department staff as needed including: conduct research, create donor bios, various briefing materials and presentations

 Update donor information within the Development database (Bloomerang)

 Administrative support; organize and schedule meetings, take minutes as needed

 Assist with mailings, filing and special projects

 Work closely across departments to play a role in overall fundraising efforts

 Work with CDO and Development Staff to coordinate and handle requests as needed

In addition to the duties listed above, ACCA expects the following of each employee: adheres to ACCA’s policies and

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS and ABILITIES –

 Strong written and oral communication skills that are effective with a broad range of audience groups

 Strong computer skills; ability to learn and use donor database software platforms

 Detail-oriented, highly organized; able to set and meet goals and deadlines

 Comfortable with initiating contact with current donors, and is friendly and outgoing

 Professional attitude; team player; able to collaborate with all colleagues throughout the organization and external partners

 Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

 Supportive of the mission of Aurora Civic Center Authority
