Development Coordinator, Institutional Giving + Marketing

Position Summary:

Hyde Park Art Center seeks a full-time Development Coordinator to support the implementation of the Art Center’s comprehensive fundraising program. Reporting to the Art Center’s Manager of Institutional Giving –and working closely with the Development and Marketing team–the Development Coordinator will support a diverse array of fundraising strategies across institutional donors, special events, and marketing. This position will provide a broad base of experience in nonprofit fundraising, as well as nonprofit management more generally, in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Compensation and Hours:

The Development Coordinator is a full-time permanent position with a salary of $46,000. Benefits include health, dental and life insurance, 401(k) matching after 6 consecutive months of employment, a generous PTO policy, and free art classes in our Oakman Clinton School + Studios. Weekly hours will mainly be within the range of 9AM - 5PM Monday through Friday, with some evenings or weekends required for special events.

Location: This is a primarily in-person position, with 1-2 remote work days per week. In-person events are also a part of this position.


The role responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following. Priorities will shift throughout the year following the development department’s calendar of events and solicitations.

  • Development Operations and Management (35%)
    • Oversee the management of the Art Center’s audience database and grants calendar, ensuring the accuracy and robustness of new and existing data
    • Process, track, and record contributions and corresponding acknowledgements in an appropriate and timely manner
    • Manage financial reconciliation of all institutional giving and event pledges, revenue and expenses, including ensuring proper documentation and collection
    • Schedule, prepare materials for meetings, and take notes at meetings for Development Department staff
  • Writing and Research (30%)
    • Research current and prospective institutional opportunities including grants from foundations, corporations, and government donors.
    • Support the Manager of Institutional Giving and Director of Development in preparing key solicitation and stewardship documents including:
      • Writing grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports
      • Collecting and formatting supplemental materials such as exhibition work samples and budgets
  • Marketing and External Communications (25%)
    • Many of the specific marketing tasks will be defined when the new Marketing + Communications Manager starts this summer, but will likely include:
      • Writing and editing weekly e-news mailings;
      • Supporting robust social media engagement across multiple platforms;
      • Supporting promotion of programs and events
      • Supporting website updates and maintenance
      • Collecting, analyzing, and reporting marketing and communications data
  • Special Events and Programs (10%)
    • Assist all aspects of coordinating development-related events, including the Art Center’s Annual Gala, donor cultivation events, and others as specified
    • Support Gala logistics, including managing relationships with vendors and reviewing contracts
    • Communicate with artists and assist with logistics for artists presenting work at the Gala
    • Update the Gala website and other development web pages using WordPress
    • Create event collateral such as signage and program books using an InDesign template and ensuring the accuracy of sponsor names and logos
    • Assist in coordinating exhibition-related events such as the annual Teen Programs exhibition


The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to learn and grow with the organization in a fundraising role. Hyde Park Art Center is open to candidates with a variety of skills and experience. Many aspects of this position can be trained. The ideal candidate will exhibit many, but likely not all, of the following experiences and competencies:

  • Interest in learning or deepening experience in nonprofit fundraising
  • Preferred one to two years of office experience
  • An aptitude for organization, rigor, details, and managing and prioritizing multiple, concurrent responsibilities
  • Exceptional interpersonal and writing skills
  • Critical thinking skills and creativity
  • The ability to work as part of a team in a unique, fast-paced, and dynamic environment
  • A broader understanding of, and commitment to, the development and support of Chicago artists
  • A commitment to equity, inclusion, and justice and desire to work within an organization that strives to uphold those values in its culture, operations, and policies and procedures
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, especially for events
  • COVID-19 vaccine and booster may be required, masking may also be required
