Development Coordinator, Individual Giving - Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras
Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras’ (CYSO’s) mission is to inspire and cultivate personal excellence through music. To fulfill its mission, CYSO offers a continuum of programs that serve young musicians between the ages of six and 18, along with neighborhood programming serving students from Chicago Public Schools. In 2019-2020, the organization will serve nearly 650 students through four full orchestras, three string orchestras, a Steel Orchestras program, a Jazz Orchestra, a Chamber Orchestra, chamber music instruction, a Composition Seminar, and masterclasses and workshops. In addition, CYSO is reaching approximately 8,500 more students through Community Engagement Programs this year.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Development Coordinator, Individual Giving, is responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s individual giving strategy in order to achieve or exceed budgeted goals, as well as managing the donor database (PatronManager/Salesforce). Specific duties and responsibilities are:
Work collaboratively with all staff, especially the Executive Director and Development Coordinator, Events & Communications, and meet regularly to set goals, prioritize activities, identify problems, and develop solutions.
Manage database projects such as new uploads and ensure accuracy of current and new data.
Develop fall, end of calendar year, and spring appeals, including content creation of letters and emails, preparation of mailing lists, and coordination with mail house.
Enter gifts in database and create acknowledgement letters, while ensuring accurate data entry and information sharing with accounting.
Develop reports and produce analysis of individual giving trends for staff and Board, as well as donor lists for program books.
Engage and steward individual donors through multiple touchpoints including events, communications, and other donor benefits.
Prospect current and potential donors through prospecting software and other research methods, and develop reports for CYSO leadership.
With the Executive Director, create a strategy for the solicitation of major gifts and create related proposals and materials.
Provide assistance with the annual CYSO gala including developing an outreach plan and invitation lists, as well as logistical and planning support as needed.
Create language for CYSO’s Annual Report.
Serve as liaison with Board of Directors and Board of Trustees, schedule meetings for full Board and committees, and maintain Board meeting minutes.
Provide support for other Board activities, events, meetings, and concerts.
Maintain awareness of current trends in fundraising and philanthropy.
Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Experience: 2+ years of development experience required, with annual giving and/or CRM database experience strongly preferred. Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are essential. Computer proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications is a must, as well as database proficiency (CYSO uses PatronManager on the Salesforce platform).
Education: A BA/BS is required. Coursework in arts administration or arts education is a plus. Knowledge of music is helpful. Demonstrated experience in non-profit finance is a plus, but not a requirement.
The ideal candidate for this position will pay close attention to detail, be organized, and deadline driven. He/she will be customer service oriented, and will possess superb people skills including the desire and ability to work well with diverse constituencies. The successful candidate will be able to manage numerous tasks and projects while maintaining a calm, positive attitude and a sense of humor.
Other: Ability and willingness to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends to attend meetings, concerts, and events beyond the framework of the normal working schedule.
