Chief Operating Officer - Fulcrum Point New Music Project

JOB DESCRIPTION

General Administration

1. Ensure the smooth operation of all administrative functions of the organization.

2. Recruit, hire, and evaluate non-artistic consultants; evaluate institutional capacity and plan for staff/consultant growth as needed.

Fundraising

1. Develop an annual fundraising plan, in conjunction with the Board.

2. Plan foundation, government and corporate fundraising, in conjunction with the Board. Serve as liaison to grant program managers and develop relationships.

3. Research and write grant proposals; track and act on reports and follow-ups from funders.

4. Plan and coordinate individual fundraising efforts, including special events, with the Board; maintain donor database.

5. Research and pursue new sources of earned income, in collaboration with Artistic Director.

Finance

1. Develop an annual budget, in conjunction with the Treasurer or other Board personnel and Artistic Director; track budget and report to the Board on progress.

2. Track all income, expenditures, and cash flow. Make and record bank deposits; pay bills and payroll; track and complete all payroll tax deposits and reports; reconcile bank statements.

3. Arrange for and assist with completion of the annual audit.

Board Management and Development

1. Serve as professional advisor to the Board of Directors; help them identify their roles and responsibilities and recommend appropriate Board policies; implement those policies as adopted.

2. Inform the Board fully and accurately about the organization’s activities.

3. Assist the board in identifying, recruiting, orienting, training, and evaluating talented, committed, well-connected volunteers to serve on the Board, on committees, and for special projects and other activities.

Marketing / Public Relations

1. In conjunction with Marketing consultant, create overall marketing and public relations plan, including strategic planning for audience growth.

Concert Production

1. Oversee concert production, including but not limited to box office and front-of-house, contracts, travel and accommodations for visiting performers, performer payments, and documentation.

2. In coordination with Artistic Director, oversee the development, contracting, and logistics of guest appearances and touring activity.

Education/Outreach Programs

1. Set annual education/outreach goals, with Education Coordinator and Artistic Director.

2. Work with Education Coordinator and Artistic Director to continue developing partnerships with school principles, teachers, arts liaisons and teaching artists. Reconsider curriculum as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Passion for the mission statement of Fulcrum Point, and a dedication to Chicago’s arts community.

2. Significant and proven leadership skills. Excellent organizational development, interpersonal, marketing, communication, and administration skills essential.

3. Proactive, trustworthy, diplomatic, understanding and innovative with a high energy level.

4. Ability to raise the visibility of the organization through networking, partner building, and successful marketing of FP programs and the institution generally, leading to strong development of earned, contributed, and in-kind income.

5. Success at contributed income fundraising, including knowledge of and success in attracting foundation and corporate grants; ability to identify, steward and solicit individual donors.

6. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; strong presentation skills

7. Experience with Quickbooks (for bookkeeping), Excel (for budgeting), and Customer Relationship Management software.
