Ceramics Studio Assistant

Do you have ceramics experience? Are you interested in learning about the daily operations of a small, local art studio? Wonder City Studio is looking for someone who can primarily help us ramp up the speed of our ceramics production, however, applicants with a robust skillset could help us with a variety of other tasks as well.

This position will start at one day per week for 6-8 hours, with the possibility of increased hours.

What you’ll do:

  • Pack and ship orders
  • Recycle and wedge clay
  • Roll and prep slabs
  • Assemble forms (mugs, plates, trays, planters, vases, etc.)
  • Make glaze test tiles
  • Sand finished work
  • Apply decals
  • Update product listings on the website
  • General studio cleanup
  • Assist with art shows (post-COVID)
  • And more depending on skill level and demonstrated ability

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to:

  • Be willing to get your hands (and clothes) dirty, literally and figuratively
  • Tackle a variety of tasks on any given day
  • Follow directions and complete tasks without excessive supervision
  • Work efficiently, with precision and an eye for detail
  • Keep a clean workspace, leaving things as tidy as you found them every time (this is really important, for both efficiency and health risks due to clay dust)
  • Work onsite at our Ravenswood studio (we’ll wear masks)
  • Show up on time and be ready to work
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs with relative ease
  • Be comfortable around our small, friendly dog, who joins us at the studio daily

Running an arts business means wearing tons of hats. If you have experience in any of these areas, we can put it to use:

  • Painting
  • Photography and photo editing
  • Videography and video editing
  • Marketing
  • Social media management
  • Graphic design
  • Web design
  • Copywriting

To apply, please send:

  • Your resume
  • A brief cover letter that tells me why you'd be a great fit (and your favorite book, please!)
  • A link to your portfolio
