Casting & Mold Making Instructor - Adults and Teens

The Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center (CIADC) is growing! To meet expanded needs, we are looking for a Casting Department Instructor for the Summer term and beyond. The ideal candidate would be available to start the week of June 24, and have the flexibility to teach possible weekday morning, weekday evening, and weekend morning class times. We’re looking for someone who can teach common fundamental skills to a diverse audience, and who would bring a unique, creative mindset to our organization. This person should be enthusiastic in working within our industrial arts school, and want to be a part of our creative community. Compensation is based on qualifications and experience. CIADC is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates should have: • strong cast object portfolio: sculptural, functional, and/or decorative • well versed in casting safety (cold casting and and foundry) including personal protective equipment, shop and hand tool use, etc. • confidence to enforce safety and policies set by CIADC • casting teaching experience with adult age groups (18+) and teen age groups (12-17), all ability levels and interests • exceptional communication skills • strong modeling and pattern making skills • mold-making experience using silicone, plaster, investment, and resin-bonded sand molds; green sand mold experience a plus • bronze and aluminum casting experience • cold-cast experience with resins, foams, plaster, concrete, etc. • working knowledge with the lost wax process, investment molds • understanding of finishing and fabrication methods pertaining to the cast object To Apply: Send cover letter, resume, low res images of (or URL link to) 5-10 cast objects personally created within the last 3 years, plus 3 professional references to: CIADC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Rogers Park.
