Broadcast Advancement Director

Public Media Institute (PMI), a non-profit, community-based arts & media organization headquartered in Chicago, seeks a new full time administrative team member who will work with the organization to build its broadcast platforms to better serve Chicago communities and beyond.

We are hoping to meet an arts/broadcast administrator committed to horizontal co-leadership of nonprofits and interested in bolstering platforms built by and for the communities they serve. PMI’s current platforms include Community Kitchen Lumpen Radio Co-Prosperity Buddy , and Lumpen Magazine . An Advancement Director would expand the capacity of these different areas, and Lumpen TLVSN, a live streaming platform launching in February, by securing underwriting, earned income, and grant support. They would also work with constituents to coordinate democratic communication and decision-making in the selection of new artists and broadcasters and in planning for the future of the organization. This is not a curatorial role but an administrative one; that said PMI thrives on creative and experimental administrative models that you would help to co-develop.

We know that arts and media organizations disproportionately alienate the most marginalized people in society — including BIpoc, disabled/crip and LGBTQ2IA+ folx. We believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities. Ideal candidates will add to PMI’s work that incorporates mutual aid, decolonization, anti-racism, horizontal structures, and anti-capitalism in our work; they will be passionate about the roles independent media and culture can play in working toward these values with the allies who fight for them.
