Bar Manager

The Aurora Civic Center Authority (ACCA), an innovative organization located on Stolp Island in the Fox River in the heart of the richly diverse community of historic Aurora, Illinois (one hour from downtown Chicago), is seeking a Bar Manager. ACCA is the parent organization, which also includes a 501(c)3 arm under the name of Paramount Arts Centre, Inc. It operates three performance venues: the 6,000-person RiverEdge Park, the 1,843-seat landmark Paramount Theatre, and the 165-seat, newly renovated Copley Theatre. ACCA produces and presents over 300 performances each year, including star-studded touring productions, a self-produced Broadway Series of musicals and the self-produced Bold Series for an annual audience of 350,000 patrons from over 250 communities. ACCA proudly operates the Paramount School of the Arts in the new John C. Dunham Aurora Arts Center, right next door to Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora. Paramount Theatre also hosts free community events, $1 Classic Movie Mondays and its opulent interiors provide a spectacular backdrop for private functions such as wedding receptions or corporate galas. Across the street from Paramount Theatre are the gorgeous Meyer Ballrooms, which play host to multiple wedding receptions and rental events throughout the year.

DEPARTMENT – Front of House/Audience Services

DIRECT REPORTING – Director of Audience Services

POSITION STATUS & SCHEDULE – Full time, with benefits; hours vary and will require days, evenings, weekends, summers, and holidays.

COMPENSATION – Starting annual salary range of $40,000-$45,000 with excellent benefits package including health, paid time off, and 401k with employer match

HIRE DATE – Immediate


  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, set goals and schedule bartenders and bar backs for all ACCA locations
  • Become proficient in TOAST POS System, troubleshoot any POS issues, and train staff
  • Assist the Director of Audience Services & Business Analytics in managing costs, driving sales and growing the business in support of the financial and organizational goals
  • Develop and coach staff in service excellence
  • Generate weekly reports on beverage & concession sales
  • Negotiate product purchase prices for all ACCA venues & events
  • Ensure bar space follows all health and safety guidelines
  • Schedule routine equipment maintenance for all venues
  • Troubleshoot on-site equipment malfunctions
  • Manage monthly inventory process
  • Order product for all venues, coordinate payments with vendors, and schedule all deliveries
  • Maintain stock levels and order supplies when necessary
  • Assist in preparation of operating budget and financial plans which support the overall objectives of the department
  • Work with bartenders to design specialty drink cocktails for 8 series shows a year as needed

In addition to the duties listed above, ACCA expects the following of each employee: adheres to ACCA’s policies and procedures; works in a safe manner; performs duties as workload necessitates; maintains a positive and respectful attitude; communicates regularly with supervisor about department issues; demonstrates efficient time management and prioritizes workload; demonstrates regular and consistent attendance and punctuality; meets productivity standards; participates in ACCA events as needed or required; and completes other duties as assigned.


  • 2+ years of Restaurant/ Bar Management experience with an emphasis on high volume, quick service
  • Live Entertainment/ Theatre background a plus
  • Previous bartending experience a plus
  • Current valid driver's license
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be dependable, reliable, motivated and a self-starter
  • Legally able to serve alcohol and BASSET certified within 30 days of employment
  • Food Safe Manager certification obtained within 30 days of employment
  • Strong computer aptitude, which includes expertise in restaurant POS system and Microsoft Office Programs (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Ability to demonstrate unfailing commitment to customer service and respond promptly to customer needs while upholding the organization's values
  • Be adaptable with multiple projects at one time
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during the shift
  • Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
  • The ability to lift, push and/or carry objects up to 50lbs
