Our award-winning sound books, songbooks, picture books, board books, bath books, Look and Find books, and graphic novels provide a fun and interactive reading experience for children and their families. Are you ready to join our creative team? We’re looking for a full-time Associate Editor. This position is based in our Chicago office, and we offer a flexible work arrangement.

Responsibilities include:

· Collaborating with creative teams to produce content for each assigned project.

· Preparing for each assigned project by researching licensed property, book format, and competitive titles.

· Writing concepts and manuscripts. With team, choosing art, sounds, and songs.

· Writing cover copy and packaging copy. With team, creating covers and spreads for sales materials.

· Working with Art Director or Graphic Designer to place text and art into templates.

· Incorporating in-house and licensor revisions at each development stage, making sure that all elements of the project (text, art, audio) are consistent and work together for the property and the format, meeting brand standards and house standards.

· Creating sound lists and recording scripts.

· Working with Sound Designer to direct recording sessions.

· Testing programmed code.

· Entering metadata into the title management system (Biblio) for each assigned project, including title, description, BISAC codes, age ranges, and author biographical information where applicable.

· Managing the project flow for each assigned project, from concept to closing.

· Meeting deadlines and production requirements as set by the Executive Editor, Publishing Operations Director, and Publisher.

· Learning and implementing house style, and copyediting/proofreading other Editors’ projects.

· Performing additional duties as assigned by the Executive Editor; these may include entering/updating data in Biblio, helping to process contracts, fact-checking, and more.

Skills and experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in English/Journalism

· 1-3 years’ editorial experience

· Demonstrated writing, editing, and storytelling skills

· Highly detail-oriented, organized, and proactive

· Comfortable with a fast-paced environment and changing priorities

· Proficient in G Suite; previous experience with Biblio a plus
