Associate Director - Engagement Programs

POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director works closely with the Director and the Engagement Programs team in leading the production of visitor and member programming. This role serves as a key point of contact for internal teams and steers the operational processes of planning and executing museum programs, both onsite and virtually. In partnership with the other Associate Director, this position plays a critical role in the development and delivery of a comprehensive institutional program calendar, representing all collection areas and serving all audiences. The two Associate Directors collaboratively lead priority assessment conversations with internal clients and external partners.

  • Work closely with the Director to develop short and long-term plans for the production and operational delivery of museum programming for members and visitors. Establishes workflow systems, processes, and best practices for the department.
  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive annual program calendar that is diverse, challenging, and impactful with an eye for equity in representation of curatorial departments and appropriate calendarization of activity across departments and audiences. Works closely with the master program calendar to identify scheduling conflicts and propose changes to resolve such conflicts.
  • Mobilize resources necessary for delivery of virtual and auditorium programs; serve as the primary point of contact for key partners and vendors supporting program delivery, including AV, Accessibility vendors, Member and Visitor Services, Special Events, Leadership Giving, and other vested parties unique to individual programs.
  • Works closely with the Director to provide relevant information to teams across the museum, including Interpretation, Marketing, Civic Relations, Public Affairs, Philanthropy, and Curatorial.
  • Administers day-of events, both onsite and virtually, in partnership with the Engagement Programs team. While the team supports the mobilization of creative content, this role focuses on program production and mobilization of operational resources, which may include the services of museum security, visitors’ services, dining and special events, housekeeping, imaging, audio-visual, museum education, public affairs, museum shop and curatorial staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree, Master’s preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent writing, public speaking, research, and interpersonal skills for engagement with people of a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Google Suite, Raiser’s Edge (or similar system), Smartsheets (or similar project management system) and demonstrated ability to learn new computer software.
  • Prior experience with museums or cultural organizations is preferred, or nontraditional or equivalent experience with projects involving operational planning and implementation of public presentations
  • Ability to work nights and occasional weekends.
