Assistant Conservator

Restoration Division, LLC, located in West Rogers Park, Chicago, has been providing fine art conservation services to the professional community since 2004. Our clients include museums, galleries, insurance companies, and private collectors. We specialize in the conservation of both traditional and contemporary paintings, murals, works on paper, photographs, documents, Asian screens and scrolls, sculptures, antique frames, and textiles.

Assistant Conservator

Restoration Division is seeking a full-time W9 employee with a variety of experiences and skills in art conservation. As an Assistant Conservator, one should have impeccable attention to detail and the ability to work towards multiple goals at once. The ideal candidate is highly flexible and is comfortable working within a team setting. The Assistant Conservator will be responsible for a variety of tasks within the studio and must be comfortable sharing responsibilities on each project.

A background in art installation experience is desired, including knowledge about power tools. Experience in working with wood and metal is appreciated, as well as basic masonry skills. Framing skills and stretching canvases may be necessary. Driving skills with commercial vans and trailers are desired. Occasionally, on-site treatments will be performed and travel may be required. Lastly, candidates with moderate to severe allergies should not apply as varnishes and other conservation-grade chemicals are often used.


-Familiarity with wood shop and metalworking, including associated machinery

-Knowledge of power tools-Experience with installation prioritized

-Prior experience in art restoration and conservation is preferred

-Degree in Painting, Sculpture, or Fine Arts

-Gilding skills desired

-Masonry experience appreciated

-A valid US driver's license is required

-Comfortable working on scaffolding/ladders

-The ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted
