The Kalapriya Foundation, Center for Indian Performing Arts presents India’s artistic diversity through the performing arts (dance, music, theater, and story-telling) that preserve traditional South Asian art forms and build bridges between the performing arts and our contemporary lives.
Kalapriya is recognized as one of the foremost Indian arts organizations in the City of Chicago with three activities focusing on
The Academy which teaches the Indian Classical Dance form of Bharatanatyam.
The Schools program working with pre K through high school children in “in school” and “after school” programs.
Kalapriya Presents its own artists and international artists in meaningful productions( Storytelling, dance, music and Theater).
Working with the Artistic Director, the Associate Artistic Director would be working on Kalapriya’s Schools Programming. The job would be full time and entail promoting and teaching Indian dance, creating and choreographing productions for youth ages 3 – 18. Kalapriya’s Schools programming is growing at a brisk pace and includes storytelling and dance, both folk and classical. Kalapriya’s presence in public and private schools ranges from preschool through high school all across chicago.
The selected candidate must show leadership and passion for teaching and mentoring youth. Knowledge of and experience in classical Indian (Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi etc) and/or other dance styles is necessary. Experience in & knowledge of, theater and staged productions is desirable. Interest and education in literature & history is valuable. Experience and ability to work independently and in a team is also essential.
The candidate must be comfortable and independent to travel across the city to the public and private schools served by Kalapriya. North( Rogers Park) , South( Bronze Ville, Hyde Park, Kenwood & Washington Park, Jackson Park and Downtown.
Compensation is competitive based on education & experience
