Art/Media Specialist

Position Summary

The Art/Media Specialist will maintain the Art Department’s current inventory of advanced hardware, software, and media equipment, and hold regular hours to operate these machines and assist students with how to incorporate these technologies into their projects. Current inventory of specialized new media equipment includes photo printer, laser cutter, CNC router and 3D printers, video, audio, and lighting equipment. This is a part time 10-month position.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate advanced hardware and equipment to support student projects on a schedule that fits the needs of our students.
  • Work with IT to service and maintain computers in Durand lab, and other classrooms.
  • Train faculty, staff and students by creating user guides, conducting technical tours of the machines and holding workshops focused on creative ways to incorporate these tools into a creative practice; establish a project management workflow model to manage the use of advanced hardware and equipment, including average turn-around times for projects, budgeting and billing, etc.
  • Maintain an understanding of current new media technology in order to troubleshoot existing advanced hardware and equipment and related systems; maintain the organization and cleanliness of equipment, technician booths, and equipment storage.

Qualifications

Proficient IT and/or networking knowledge or a background with computer hardware and software. Ability to quickly learn new hardware and software. Strong research and

communication skills- both spoken and written. Strong interpersonal skills.
