Art Gallery Preparator
The Robert F. DeCaprio Art Gallery at Moraine Valley Community College is looking for a preparator to assist in all tasks related to installation and deinstallation.
Duties
- Installation & deinstallation of 2D, 3D, and multimedia artwork of all kinds
- Measuring space and placing artwork in correct locations
- Packing, unpacking, & crating artwork for shipment or pick up
- Patching small wall holes during deinstallation
- Painting patches of gallery wall as needed
- Managing supplies and tools needed for exhibition preparation
- Protect art throughout entire process
- Store art securely when not on display
- All duties related to exhibition preparation
- Additional duties as assigned
Education & Experience
- 2-3 years experience installing & deinstalling artwork or similar
- Gallery & museum specific preparatory experience preferred
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of installing & deinstalling art exhibitions
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience of necessary tools
- Understanding of art exhibition best practices
- Ability to accurately measure and space artworks
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work on feet, and lift arms over head
Hours- Vary, typically Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm for installation and deinstallation. Nights and weekends rarely, but as needed.
There is, typically, one installation and one deinstallation per month. You will receive ample notice when needed. This position is perfect for someone with a busy schedule.
