After School Music Teacher

Seeking good singers who love children and are looking for part-time hourly work. We are hiring for our After-school programs. Starting pay is $40/hour + travel, if applicable.

There are two shifts that urgently need to be filled: Mondays & Wednesdays in Ravenswood. More will become available in the Winter. Please DO NOT apply if you are not available on both Mondays and Wednesdays at 3:30pm.

Current open position requirements:

  • Weekday afternoon availability, typically 3:30pm-4:30pm + travel time
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the whole of Chicago, including north, south, and west sides
  • Strong skills in singing, ukulele, and music theory
  • Experience working with children ages 3-6
  • Strong classroom management skills

Training is PAID. The Music Playhouse will provide all of the equipment and materials needed for classes.

About The Music Playhouse of Chicago

We offer high quality, super fun and interactive early childhood music education classes for families with children ages 0-6, and for preschools and daycares. Our curriculum is research-based and play-based, and includes singing, dancing, instrument play, and music games. Classes are held in various spaces throughout the northside of Chicago including indoors, outdoors, in schools, and in student’s homes, with occasional special events in the city and suburbs. Most of our classes are in Lakeview and Lincoln Park.

Responsibilities

This position is 90% singing & dancing. Teachers are responsible for learning and practicing the songs and activities use in class. Lesson plans are provided.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years experience as a lead teacher with ages 3-6 in a school or school-like setting
  • MUST be a good singer
  • MUST love children
  • MUST be able to play ukulele: must know C, Am, F, and G7 chords
  • Strong music theory knowledge
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Experience performing live
  • Some formal music training
  • Fun, positive, energetic, outgoing personality
  • Experience with children ages 3-6
