Accounting Manager

The Old Town School of Folk Music is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee the accounting function.

Manage the day-to-day fiscal functions of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.


  • Supervise and review all accounting functions; including ensuring adequate internal controls are in place.
  • Responsible for month end close, including preparation of journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
  • Manage the annual audit and 990 preparation; prepare schedules and analysis required by external auditors.
  • Handle special projects as needed.
  • Complete all bank account reconciliations and booking of adjustments.
  • Provide back up for all accounting functions, including but not limited to:
    - Payroll; Cash receipts (bank deposits, petty cash management, cash receipts entry in General Ledger); Accounts Payable
  • Assist with the annual budget process, including analysis and preparation of budget models.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • At least three years of accounting or business office experience (including Accounts Payable, Payroll, General Ledger and Cash Receipts), preferably in a nonprofit organization required.
  • A forward-thinking individual with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • High ethical standards and sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar software required. Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and Filemaker Pro or similar database a plus. Familiarity with ADP helpful.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting, or equivalent combination of experience and/or training; CPA desirable.
