Side Street Studio Arts is looking for artist-interns to assist in our extensive event schedule, day-to-day activities, and teaching in our arts workshops and camps. Artists are given the opportunity to produce works using the LAB at SS, network with local/regional artists, market their work to new audiences, and engage in outreach programs, including arts education and internal/external productions. The internship experience will culminate in a solo exhibition or performance of each artist-intern’s personal artistic practice in whichever medium they prefer.

SSSA was founded by Tanner Melvin and Erin Rehberg in 2013 as an outlet for the Elgin arts scene. Currently under the direction of Melvin and Rehberg, Side Street provides educational and creative resources and an inclusive space, run by artists. Side Street’s mission is to support the artist and artistic journey through collaboration.

Artist-Internship information:

Qualifications needed:

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Strong writing skills

· A commitment to the arts and arts education

· Honed personal artistic practice

· Knowledge of electronic communication i.e. emails, google drive, phone apps etc.

· Knowledge of social media marketing

· Positive Attitude

· Website design and production experience a plus, but not necessary

· Poster/marketing design experience a plus, but not necessary

· Press relations experience a plus, but not necessary

Artist-Internship benefits:

· First-hand experience programming, installing, striking and promoting visual art exhibitions

· First-hand experience working with festival production and live performance

· Public and media relations experience

· Knowledge of gallery operations

· Opportunity to network, collaborate, learn from, and work with a variety of professional artists

*Upon completion of the Artist-Internship, the intern will have use of Side Street Studio Arts for a week to curate a show, exhibit their own work, and/or produce a performance.
