Side Street Studio Arts - The String, a free monthly publication showcasing work inspired by and in response to the world around us. (OPEN CALL)

THE STRING aims to create a platform for the voices of those who are marginalized, silenced, and underrepresented in the world of literature and visual art.

OCTOBER SUBMISSION THEME. Submit art around the question: "What scares you?"

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION is the FINAL FRIDAY OF THE MONTH (9/25). We are now welcoming work of many kinds, including: essays, fiction and non-fiction stories, photography, interviews, printmaking, drawings, poetry, and humor.

We ask that all work and submissions be recent, and made by those within the Fox Valley/Chicagoland area. You may submit your work by visiting us at You will be notified asap if you are to be included in this month's issue of The String.

​The String will be released every First Friday of the month and will be available at many local establishments, including downtown retail shops, restaurants, bars, ONLINE, and at our MADE retail art storefront located at 13 S.
