Queer Ecologies
Beco Gallery is excited to announce a Queer Ecologies Open Call for a group exhibition at Purple Window Gallery in Chicago, Illinois! The exhibition is a celebration of Queer artists from the Midwest thinking with ecological systems (birds, plants, bacteria, weather, ETC).
The exhibition is an exchange between two artist-run spaces, Purple Window Gallery (Chicago, IL) and Beco Gallery (Kansas City, KS). The show will be hosted by Purple Window Gallery and curated by Beco Gallery (Lily Erb and SK Reed). Both Lily and SK's artistic practices are informed by ecology and queerness. The exhibition will include eight artists total, six selected from the Open Call and two being the curators themselves, Lily & SK.
We are interested in how midwestern artists are looking to other species as inspiration and possible relief from the very binary and heteronormative human realm. The curatorial statement will be further guided by the artists and works selected.
Submissions are due November 16, 2024 @ 11:59pm. Artists will be notified by December 10, 2024.
**Artists accepted are required to meet virtually the week following notification to meet one another and plan for the exhibition.**
