About Evanston Art Center:
The Evanston Art Center (EAC) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to fostering the appreciation and expression of the arts among diverse audiences by offering extensive and innovative instruction in broad areas of artistic endeavor through classes, exhibitions, interactive arts activities, and community outreach.
Mission of reVISION:
This Spring 2021, the Evanston Art Center wishes to host its first ever outdoor immersive art experience focused on creating upcycled and interactive installations for the public to socially engage with and think critically about reducing waste, recycling, and repurposing disposable objects. This 3 day exhibition will help further expand the art center’s audience, draw more socially conscious attention to environmental issues, as well as assist in raising funds that continue to support the mission of the Evanston Art Center.
Seeking Lead Artists or Artist Teams:
We invite professional individual artists or artist teams to apply for this juried exhibition, and will accept up to 20 designs to be executed and installed by the event spanning May 14 - 16, 2021. Chosen artwork will be installed outdoors in a covered tent in the parking lot of Evanston Art Center. Your work must remain installed for the duration of the 3 day exhibition.
Cash equivalents will be presented at the event. Awards may include People’s Choice and Best of Show categories.
Please note that there is no honorarium for artists, stipends for travel, or accommodations for out-of-town artists.
Thematic Consideration: “reclamation”.
For this immersive experience, we would like artists to consider the conceptual suggestion of reclamation: the process of repurposing or reappropriating what is traditionally considered waste. Artists are encouraged to interpret this within their aesthetic language and not feel confined to representational imagery.
Each application will be reviewed by a panel designated by EAC and its community partners, and considered with the following criteria in mind:
- Experience and qualifications of the artist(s)
- Thoughtful and creative interpretation of the theme
- Capability to carry out the project / feasibility of installation
Artwork Guidelines & Conditions.
This 3 day exhibition will be installed outdoors in a covered tent in the parking lot of Evanston Art Center. All selected work must be delivered in its final state ready for installation. No dimension of any work may exceed ten feet.
The EAC reserves the right to reject previously accepted works due to inadequate framing/mounting or for security/public safety reasons. The Evanston Art Center reserves the right to refuse any work which differs from the submitted images. All accepted entries will be considered temporary loans to the EAC. The EAC will assume insurance responsibility for the object upon receipt and inspection, and during the exhibition. The EAC is not liable for any claim for loss, theft or damage of any kind during transportation. The EAC will exercise the usual care in handling and will provide insurance coverage subject to EAC policy guidelines. It cannot be responsible for minor wear resulting from normal handling.
