Calling All Artists and Writers!

Are you passionate about exploring a decolonial framework and expanding your artistic practice while driving social change? We have exciting subsidized scholarships available* for Fall 2024 and Winter/Spring 2025 in Cusco, Oaxaca, and Puebla!

Arquetopia invites visual artists, designers, writers, and students aged 20 and over to apply for our special artist-in-residence scholarships, in all 20+ categories of our residency programs. Our residencies offer a unique space where resistance, knowledge, and ethics intersect. We are dedicated to imagining a collective present, past, and future that prioritizes the well-being of all participants.

Residents are encouraged to challenge dominant forms of knowledge, including tourism, art history, and visual culture, and to enhance their studio practices through critical discussions. Our programs are process-oriented, autonomous, and focus on project-based learning, with a critical approach to studio practices and artistic research.

Arquetopia’s artist residencies are designed with a decolonial framework that challenges traditional narratives and promotes diverse perspectives in art and cultural practices. These residencies offer artists the opportunity to engage deeply with local communities, traditions, and knowledge systems in Oaxaca, Puebla, and Cusco. By immersing themselves in the rich cultural contexts of these regions, artists can critically examine and reinterpret their own work in relation to the histories and contemporary realities of the Global South.

The decolonial framework at Arquetopia emphasizes: contextual learning, critical reflection, intercultural dialogue and an ethical engagement with the artistic practice.

By exposing artists to non-dominant forms of thinking and knowledge, Arquetopia encourages artists to challenge and expand their ideas. Arquetopia’s residencies ultimately aim to create a space where artists can rethink their practices by challenging history and dominant forms of knowledge by emphasizing intuition and critical perspectives.

Don’t miss your chance to join our International Artist Residencies in Mexico or Peru. We look forward to welcoming you soon!
