Call for ILLINOIS Artists: Chicago State University

The Art-in-Architecture Program of the Capital Development Board is pleased to announce a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to Illinois professional artists to create permanent original public art for the Health Simulation Lab in Douglas Hall at Chicago State University in Chicago, Illinois. An inter-professional health simulation lab will be constructed on the second floor of Douglas Hall. Multiple disciplines will use this space including nursing, pharmacy, public health, occupational therapy, and health information administration. Work includes creating a state-of-the-art simulation laboratory as well as the construction of associated classrooms and offices.

The budget for the project is $96,000.00. These public art commissions and potential purchases are open to all professional artists, artisans, or artist-led teams that live and work in the state of Illinois. The Committee is interested in artwork that explores wellness, well-being, and health within a broader context including economic stability, education access and quality, health care access and quality, the neighborhood and the built environment, and the social and community context. The committee does not intend for the artwork to be limited to iconography related to the healthcare field. The Committee does not wish to limit artists. Artists are offered the walls throughout the second floor and the ceiling space above the oval conference room as potential locations for their artwork. The artwork can consist of one piece, multiple pieces, or an installation. The artwork must meet all requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Illinois Accessibility Code for protruding objects along an accessible route.

At least three artists/teams will be selected from the pool of eligible artists/teams and paid a fee of $1,500.00 each to develop and present a site specific proposal. Please review the full document to learn more about this project and the requirements to apply.
