Call for Chicago Writers – Art Criticism
6018North is pleased to announce an online workshop on art criticism. The workshop's aim is twofold: to contribute to the development of Chicago-area writers who engage critically with contemporary art, and in the longer term, to bring contemporary art to new audiences.
You and 9 other writers will hone and advance your art writing, criticism, and practical skills. Workshop leader Lise McKean, with a group of guest speakers and one-on-one editors, will provide readings and assignments to expand the conversation about the art form and to offer one-on-one feedback on your writing. Assignments range from reviewing 6018North’s Windows to the World exhibition, to dedicated individual writing. The workshop meets weekly for seven sessions (one week is an individual editing session).
Lise McKean, Ph.D., is an anthropologist, writer, editor, and occasional curator. Her art-writing includes catalog essays as well as articles and interviews for badatsports.com and other publications. Her degrees are from the University of Chicago, the University of Hawai'i, and Sydney University.
Workshop participants will receive a $150 honorarium. Selection is limited to Chicago-area writers that can attend all of the sessions. Please note that deadlines are a part of writing, so please be mindful of these dates:
Application Deadline: Saturday, June 20
