Call For Art: Religious/Spiritual Trauma
A multimedia group show on the theme of spiritual trauma titled "This Is What We Carry", March 23-April 28, 2024. The group show will be held in a community space in Logan Square and welcomes artists of all levels.
We are interested in all mediums of art centering on themes of religious trauma and spiritual trauma. We trust each artist to define these terms in ways that are true for them, but a broad definition of spiritual trauma could be: "Negative internalized beliefs of self which have been learned from religious teachings or ideologies". Said another way, we are looking to explore through art the complicated and sometimes painful relationships between people and their religious traditions. We are excited to see how artists communicate or interpret this theme!
Those with religious trauma from religions and experiences other than Christianity are especially invited to apply!
We can accept all visual mediums and would need to discuss the logistics of other mediums (performance, music, written, ect) but will happily accept your proposals!
There is no submission fee and you are welcome to submit multiple pieces.
We also invite artists to make new pieces for this show if the theme inspires them. You may submit the form to show your interest even if you do not have a completed piece yet.
We will host one working studio day where interested artists can meet and brainstorm their pieces for this show.
