At Ease: Healing in Nature
People who have served our country in the military often face special challenges. Stresses and traumas, both mental and physical, can negatively impact and interrupt daily lives. Healing from these experiences can be difficult, but taking part in activities such as spending time in nature and making art can help. How have nature and the arts helped you?
For this exhibition, we are looking for artwork that explores themes such as healing or wellness, reflections on military service, or engaging with nature and the outdoors. We are accepting work in all media and styles that feature or are in some way related to this theme, including paintings, drawings, sculpture, digital artwork, video, performances, poetry, and music. Artists included in the exhibition must be either an active duty service member, a veteran of military service, or family member of active duty or veteran military.
About At Ease:
Since 2015, we have worked with Military Veterans and their families through our At Ease program, an innovative approach to empower Military Veterans’ wellbeing through a series of nature-based art and photography workshops.
This program is offered at no charge to Military Veterans thanks to our supporters and partners. Brushwood Center collaborates with the James A. Lovell Federal Healthcare Center and local partners to connect Veterans to the arts and the opportunity to explore and restore in nature. Participants immerse themselves in the peaceful sanctuary provided by Brushwood Center at the pristine Ryerson Woods, and discover a new side of themselves and the natural world through the creative arts.
